		<description>As a certified Batterer&#039;s Intervention Program facilitator and having   worked with males convicted of domestic abuse for  5 years , I think it is important to remember that domestic abuse by men is  systematic and  is always about maintaining  and asserting power and control as men already have power and control in  this patriarchal society.  It is never about anger except as a manipulative tool and is never about mental illness.  If you treat the mental illness  and the  batterering abusive behavior does not cease you simply have a more mentally stable  batterer.  As the article mentions batterering  and abusive behavior  can be economic, spiritual psychological , sexual   verbal ,  can and often does include pet abuse  as means of maintianing  power  and  contol  of victims.
