It is never about anger except as a manipulative tool and is never about mental illness. If you treat the mental illness and the batterering abusive behavior does not cease you simply have a more mentally stable batterer. As the article mentions batterering and abusive behavior can be economic, spiritual psychological , sexual verbal , can and often does include pet abuse as means of maintianing power and contol of victims.
